During a presentation, I told a story about a company trapped in what I call “fire drill” culture. Everything was treated as urgent. Employees rushed from one task to the next, and no one paused to ask the bigger questions.

Here are 3 steps I recommend:
- Encourage questions. Build a culture where employees feel safe to ask “why”. They should challenge assumptions, rather than blindly following directions.
- Teach your team to solve problems. Instead of giving solutions, show your people how to anticipate the future and analyze issues step-by-step. That way, they learn to solve problems independently.
- Reflect on outcomes. After projects or decisions, ask: What worked? What didn’t? What can we learn for next time? This feedback loop strengthens judgment and sharpens problem-solving.
When you foster critical thinking, your team becomes more confident and less reactive. They’ll feel better equipped to move your business forward.
